Newmarket & District Canine Society Open Show Critique

I would like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge, the efficient and friendly stewards and the exhibitors for entering and showing. Thanks too to Mrs Eyke Shannon who sponsored the deerhound entry.

Puppy (0,0)

Yearling (5,1)
1,  Williams’s Aberlemno Ailith. Thirteen month old bitch. Nicely proportioned head with a darkish eye, a good strong long neck leading into a body of suitable length with a pleasing  topline finishing with a shapely croup. Fore and hindquarters were well balanced. The girl was well muscled and flowed round the ring: side movement showed good reach whilst coming and going was true. (RBoB).
2, Williams’s Aberlemno Ailsa.
Litter sister to (1). Preferred the ear set on this bitch compared to (1) but there was very little to choose between the two, indeed there were three litter sisters in this class all of the same type and very similar. Ideally would have liked to see more depth of chest but these youngsters have plenty of time to develop. On the day preferred the movement of (1) who also seemed to keep a better topline whilst going round the ring.
3, Buckley’s  Aberlemno Athdara.

Postgraduate (5,1)
1, Trotman and Dockree’s Stainlonan Rend of Penherald. Two and half year old bitch.  Pleasing head with a darkish eye. Nice length of neck with the general outline showing good proportion. No exaggeration in topline with the rise over the loin flowing into a shapely croup. Good shoulder placement which complimented the hindquarters curved stifle. Fit, well muscled and moved round the ring with alacrity which gave her the edge over (2).
2, Williams’s Greyflax True Blue. Eighteen month old male. Another nice dog shown in good condition. Much taller than (1) still with a good top line. Shoulders well laid but slightly straighter in the stifle than I would have liked.  Moved well coming and going but did not have the same vim on this scorching day as (1).
3, Girling’s Pyefleet Ursula.

Open (9,4)
1, Tresh’s Lyndorthwin Ethel Grey. Five year old bitch. Very nice, very feminine with a lovely head and expression. Super outline, good depth, well balanced with a good top line, curved croup and well set on tail. Good tuck up. Good feet. She was expertly handled and had ring presence. Movement was sound: from the front and rear, in profile with good reach, and in spite of the heat powered round the ring (BoB).
2, Girling’s Pyefleet Timothy.  Four year old dog of very different type from (1). Masculine head with nice eye and expression. A strong neck complimenting a good length of body and deep chest with well sprung rib. Shoulders were well laid and in balance with the hind quarters. Good harsh coat. A fit chap, well muscled who was not really enjoying the heat of the day.
3, Shannon’s Erewhon Celestial Fire.
